Serena and I are hosting two read-a-longs this month, and we’d love for you to join us.
We’ll be reading It by Stephen King from August through December. The first discussion on Part 1 and the following interlude will be held on Savvy Verse & Wit on August 24. Click here to view the complete reading schedule.
We’re also reading Enemy Women by Paulette Jiles as part of the U.S. Civil War Reading Challenge 2011, but you don’t have to be participating in the challenge to read with us! We will be hosting a discussion on the book every Friday this month on War Through the Generations beginning August 5. Click here to view the complete schedule.
Please let me know in the comments if you planning on reading with us!

Yes I saw over at Serena’s you are reading IT! I truly loved that book when I read it years ago…not as much as The Stand, but still alot. There is no way I can squeeze this in with everything else going on, but I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. The kids and I did just watch the movie when we were in IN. Pretty good movie, except for the end, which was horrible. You should never EVER show the monster.

If the book is too scary for me, I’m definitely not watching the movie! 😉

LOL I agree with Sandy the end of the movie…not cool. I’m sorry that Sandy won’t be able to join us, but I hope she joins in the discussions.

EEEK! I will most definitely not be doing the It readalong — too scary! Enemy Women is more my speed — let me see if I can get a copy from the library!

I loved Enemy Women–one of my favorites! So different, so gut-wrenching, and her descriptive writing of the Missouri countryside really brought it to life. I recommend this book to everyone who asks for Civil War books.

I read it several years ago but forget the details, so I’m looking forward to the re-read.

Anna, I’m not sure if I can swing these read-a-longs, but I’ll definitely be reading your related posts. 🙂

I’m sad to admit this, but I’ve actually never read a Stephen King book before. I’m going to have to see if I can get my hands on a copy of IT. I have a tendency to get nightmares after watching scary movies, but I’m hoping King won’t be sneaking into my dreams when I do read IT.

I’m going to try my hardest to read with you guys. I’m pretty sure I can swing it – I just went and picked up the eBook so I’d better. lol. I’m looking forward to it. I loved being scared by a book. I remember I couldn’t sleep when I read Salem’s Lot. lol.

Great! I really hope It doesn’t keep me up at night. I really wanted to read a truly scary book, but I’m a bit freaked out about the clown.

Lol. I know what you mean. I’m freaked out by those clown dolls people collect. I can’t have them anywhere around me. Maybe we shouldn’t read this right before bed. Lol.

I’ll have to take a picture of The Girl’s clown doll and tell some stories about how she loves to torture me with it! I think I’ll read this book on the train so that I hopefully will have put it out of my mind by bedtime.

I’m trying to read IT, sneaking it in here and there in between my other reads.

I’ve recently acquired a liking for Stephen King again…Loved him in the 80’s then very little for the next 20 years and now I hear his books calling me once again. I did enjoy IT; hope u do too.

That’s why we’re only reading 1 part a month for 5 months! I couldn’t read 1,000+ pages in a month. 😉
