To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Austenprose is hosting The Pride and Prejudice Bicentenary Challenge. Given that Austen is my favorite author and P&P is one of my favorite books, I couldn’t resist signing up. You can read Austen’s original novels, explore Austen-inspired books, or watch the movie adaptations for this challenge.
I’m signing up for the “Aficionada” level of 9-12 selections, and The Girl (age 12) wants to sign up for the “Neophyte” level of 1-4 selections. I plan to re-read Pride and Prejudice because The Girl asked me to read it with her. I’m so excited to share it with her! She also plans to re-watch a movie or two, while I plan to read a bunch of the Austenesque novels I haven’t had a chance to crack open yet.
I hope some of you will join us. The details are here.

I am limiting my challenges….so I am skipping this, though you know I love P&P

I guess I kinda cheat by signing up for challenges that aren’t too much of a challenge for me, but I just can’t resist.

I was surprised and thrilled that she wanted to join, but I know how much she enjoys the Austen movie adaptations and I knew she’d want to actually read Austen at some point. 🙂

Thanks! It can be hard to balance challenges with whatever else is going on in your life. I know I sometimes barely finish them, but I tend to choose ones that overlap with what I already plan to read during the year.

I wrote a followup on Lydia. (the bad one)
I’ve never tied to publish it however.

Lydia is such an interesting character for a sequel! I loved Lydia Bennet’s Story by Jane Odiwe. Have you read that one?

I adore Pride and Prejudice! The latest movie with Kiera Knightly was outstanding as well.

Thanks! I hope she enjoys it, too. It’ll be sad for me if she’s not an Austen fan. 😉
