I am delighted to share with you today the cover of the latest Meryton Press novel, What’s Past is Prologue by Ann Galvia, which will be available for pre-order sometime today!
I’ve been looking forward to another release from Galvia since I read and enjoyed Side by Side Apart, which will be available for a special price very soon (see below), so you’ll want to grab that if you haven’t read it yet. (I loved the book, and if you’re curious or need convincing, feel free to check out my review!)
Before I reveal the exquisite cover for What’s Past Is Prologue, here’s the blurb:
Elizabeth Darcy has her eye on the future.
Before her marriage, she saw herself making the best possible choice. Her husband saved her family from ruin. All he asked in return was her hand. Secure in his good opinion, Elizabeth married him. Only with hindsight and his cryptic warnings that passion is not immutable does Elizabeth question her decision. Her solution? Give him a son as soon as possible. Once his lust for her has been slaked, this service she has rendered him will ensure her value.
The newlyweds are summoned to Rosings Park almost the moment they are married. Though the estate can boast of beautiful grounds, Elizabeth and Darcy arrive to find devastation. A flood has swept away Lady Catherine’s last hopes of hiding debt and years of mismanagement. She expects Darcy to shoulder the recovery efforts.
The effort to save Rosings strains the already tense relationship between Elizabeth and her husband. To make matters worse, her presence is met with disdain and disinterest from the family. As the days in the besieged estate drag on, Elizabeth slowly untangles the histories and secrets of her new relations.
Like Elizabeth’s marriage, the crisis at Rosings is the culmination of past events. Disaster need not be the result of only bad choices; good principles have led them astray as well. As for Elizabeth, she barely knows her husband, and loving him might be impossible. Yet, she is determined to save all that she can—her marriage and the estate—and somehow, create the future she longs for.
Doesn’t that sound intriguing? I can’t wait to find out what ruin Darcy saved Elizabeth’s family from, why she agreed to marry him without truly knowing him, and why she is so desperate to give him a son so quickly. And the cryptic warnings and the secrets and Lady Catherine’s problems…it sounds like a real page-turner to me!
And now, without further ado, What’s Past Is Prologue by Ann Galvia:
What a stunning cover! The poses, the looks on their faces…I’m dying to know what’s happening here!
And now, the full cover:
I love the flowers on the back cover. It is very bright and elegant and perfectly complements the front cover.
About the Author
Ann started writing sometime before she knew how letters functioned. Her first books were drawings of circus
poodles heavily annotated with scribbles meant to tell a story. Upon learning how letters were combined to represent words, she started doing that instead. This has proven to be much more successful.
Sometime after that, she decided she wanted to study Anthropology and sometime after that, she decided she liked cats more than dogs. And sometime after that, she decided to become an educator and teach a new generation of kids how to combine letters to represent words, and use those words express ideas.
And sometime after that, she realized all she really wanted to do was write, which probably should have been evident from the beginning.

I hope you all love the cover as much as I do and am eager to read the book! Stay tuned for the blog tour…
And don’t forget the special sale coming soon!
OMG! I loved Side by Side, Apart with its cover… which was amazing. I love this one too. I can tell this is not going to be our sweet fluffy love story that we usually see in JAFF. This sounds like it is gritty and filled with angst.
Like Side by Side… it sounds like we are going to have a very different Darcy and Elizabeth. I look forward to seeing what happened with the Bennets and Elizabeth’s rush to have a son as soon as possible. What was the meaning of Darcy’s cryptic warnings that passion was not immutable??? What the heck does that mean…? Did they negotiate and he is saying this is not to be left off the table? Oh dear.
Well, I guess I will just have to read this. Thanks for hosting Anna… great post. Thanks to our author Ann Galvia for the reduced price for those who do not already have her Side by Side book. Blessings on the launch of this new work.

Thank you! I don’t think Elizabeth is going to settle for an Unhappily Ever After, so we’ll see how things go…

Jumping with joy here!!! Absolutely love the cover on this one as I did Ms. Galvia’s first book, ‘Side by Side Apart’. I also loved that book – 5* review from from me! Elizabeth has the look ‘Should I leave or should I go?’ The premise is certainly different and one that is absolutely intriguing! What I also like is the uniqueness of Ms. Galvia’s titles. Looking forward to the blog tour! There will be no lack of summer reading this year!! Now to work them all in!!!

What an intriguing premise, and so is the cover. Such tension between the lady and the gentleman. I loved ‘Side by Side Apart’, and this sounds incredibly tempting. Thanks, ladies! Looking forward to reading this!

I did enjoy Side by Side Apart and this one sounds intriguing. I do hope it has a happy ending even though the beginning doesn’t seem too promising for Darcy and Elizabeth.
Personally I think they should let Lady Catherine solve the problems of her own making but I suppose the tenants will suffer along with her. She certainly shouldn’t be left in charge again.

The painting used on the cover of this book is “The Tiff” by Henry Gillard Glindoni. I loved this painting the moment I saw it, though for a long time I didn’t think it could ever work as a cover. The postures of each figure seem to just radiate how they feel. The woman is not going to back down. She’s going to stand her ground, and she’s going to do it with her chin high. The man is sitting, slouched over, head in his hand. Maybe he doesn’t want to fight. Maybe he’s tired, or he sees that it’s futile…
Glindoni lived from 1852 to 1913. He wasn’t a Regency painter, but a painter of historical scenes and costumes.
A few years ago, Suzan Lauder did a (I think it was a guest) blog post about the prevalence of Regency ladies to do what appeared to be picking a wedgie in Regency artwork. Of course, Regency ladies are not so undignified or wearing garments that would produce wedgies. They are simply holding up the train of their gowns.
In the grand tradition of Regency artwork, Glindoni painted our lady holding her gown. I knew it might raise some eyebrows, but her proud, provocative, holding-my-ground posture is worth it.

Thanks! And yes, the painting is just perfect for this book! Both the postures are very evocative.

Ann Galvia is a gifted author whose writing is decidedly different than any other in JAFF, and I’m also lucky enough to call Ann a good friend. My unbiased rating for the fantastic “Side by Side, Apart” is five stars just like the other readers. Those who haven’t had the chance are lucky to be able to get the discounted rate next week.
I meant to read “What’s Past is Prologue” when it was a story on one of the JAFF sites but due to RL constraints, I never got to it. That must mean I was destined to read the professionally edited version. Now I can hardly wait for the release!
The cover is lovely! So much space is shown between the man and the woman, and not only does it appear that that gap is prickling with tension, we see they both need to increase the distance for their own reasons! Wow! If that’s not a signal for lots of angst, I don’t know what is!

Well, as the title reminds us, our present circumstances are the result of what we did before. So it sounds like your past not-reading has set you up for reading in the future! 😉

And thank you for making it, Janet! Everyone, I told Janet I loved this painting but didn’t know how it could ever be a cover. I had a whole laundry list of things standing in the way and once I told them all to Janet, she didn’t bat an eye. Just fixed them all in record time!

That’s Janet for you! Mention a detail that’s bugging you, not even thinking that it could be fixed, and voila! Great job on another cover!

I, also, loved Side By Side, Apart and also read it as Bruises as a WIP. I am so looking forward to this new story. The cover is beautiful and as said, the flowers here and there are lovely. I do love the color pink. Good luck with this release. This sounds like the beginning of the marriage is rather tenuous. Wondering how so? She has haste to provide an heir? He wants her as a reward for saving her family? A son would secure his esteem?

Pink flowering Judas trees appear repeatedly throughout the book. They are significant in Elizabeth’s journey and I love that they are beautifying the back cover.
(Though I will admit I never call them ‘Judas’ in the text. Too much baggage on that word.)
I am glad you loved ‘Side by Side, Apart’ and hope ‘What’s Past is Prologue’ will earn some love, too.
