Welcome to Mailbox Monday, the weekly meme created by Marcia, formerly from The Printed Page, where book lovers share the titles they received for review, purchased, or otherwise obtained over the past week. Mailbox Monday currently is on tour, and this month’s host is 5 Minutes For Books.
Here’s what I added to my shelves:
A Parachute in the Lime Tree by Annemarie Neary, from the author and The History Press Ireland for review (Amazon/IndieBound)
April 1941. German bombers are in the air, about to attack Belfast.
Oskar is a Luftwaffe conscript whose sweetheart, Elsa, was forced to flee Berlin for Ireland two years before. War-weary, he longs for escape.
In remote Dunkerin, Kitty awakes to find a parachute trapped in one of the lime trees. When she discovers Oskar, injured and foraging for food in her kitchen, he becomes a rare and exciting secret. But Ireland during the ‘Emergency’ is an uneasy place, and word of the parachute soon spreads.
Meanwhile, Elsa is haunted by the plight of the parents she left behind. With the threat of Nazi invasion, she feels far from secure. A chance encounter with Elsa, and Charlie, a young medical student finds himself falling in love.
Oskar, Kitty, Elsa, Charlie. Their lives intertwine in a climate of war, exile, and ever-uncertain neutrality. (publisher’s summary)
The Memory of Scent by Lisa Burkitt, unsolicited from The History Press Ireland (Amazon/IndieBound)
Set against the backdrop of Paris in 1883, The Memory of Scent is the story of two French women, Fleur and Babette, and of how their lives diverge when the artist they both model for is found dead.
For Fleur, hers is a life lived on the fringes of the Impressionist movement in a world of colour and music; Babette is not so lucky, and following the death of the artist, her life begins to quickly unravel on the streets of France.
This is a novel of the senses, in which memory, love and loss are explored and examined, and where the ties which hold us together can also pull us apart. (publisher’s summary)
Diary of a One-Night Stand by Alexandrea Weis, from the author for review (Amazon/IndieBound)
Resilient and practical, Kara Barton has continually strived to live a respectable life. She went to college, embarked on a promising career as an attorney, married a great guy, and always appeared to be the perfect wife and mother. But all is not what it seems, and the troubling past Kara has been running from her entire life is about to catch up with her. Urged on by her insecurities about growing older, and desperately wanting to feel one more night of passion, Kara agrees to share a tryst in a hotel room with a sexy business associate, Scott Ellsworth. But Scott wants more than one night together, and Kara quickly discovers it is impossible to resist him. Soon Kara finds herself transformed into the kind of woman she vowed never to become, and the secure world she has struggled all her life to build begins to fall apart. Kara Barton is about to find out how a one-night stand can change everything. (publisher’s summary)

Hi Anna! The Parachute in the Lime Tree sounds like a great, captivating story. I’m not familiar with the publisher and plant to look them up. I like the unique aspect of the story, the Ireland setting and the characters who sound interesting. I hope you like this book.
The summary of The Memory of Scent is riveting. I like the idea of the two women’s stories and am curious what happened with the artists death and why one of the woman’s lives goes downhill after the death.
I’m looking forward to your reviews and hope you enjoy your new books!
