Serena and I are co-hosting a read-along for the WWI Reading Challenge on War Through the Generations, but you don’t have to be a challenge participate to take part. We will read a little bit of Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms each week throughout the month of June, with discussion questions to be posted on the challenge blog every Friday. It’s not too late to sign up, and you can jump into the discussion at any time.
Here’s the schedule:
Week 1: Chapters 1-10 (discussion on June 8)
Week 2: Chapters 11-20 (discussion on June 15)
Week 3: Chapters 21-30 (discussion on June 22)
Week 4: Chapters 31-41 (discussion on June 29)
We hope you’ll consider joining us. I’m excited to delve into Hemingway, as I’ve only read a couple of his shorter works.
Have you read A Farewell to Arms? What did you think?

I’m definitely going to participate in this readalong but I’m going to be a little behind since I don’t have a copy of this book yet! I read it years ago so I’m looking forward to see what I think of it now.

That’s no problem, just jump into the discussion when you’re ready. We’ll be following the comments on all the discussion posts throughout the month.
I love hearing how people feel when they re-read books!

I’m rereading it; since I do the Trivial Pursuit for Book Lovers on Friday, I’ll probably be posting on Thursday.

Anna, I did read this book, many years ago. I’m not sure I can join the read-a-long, but I will stop by to read your discussions. (I mention your WWII reading challenge in today’s post.)

I have never read the book, though had seen the movie many years ago.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I might have to look for it, depending how I feel about the book when I’ve finished it.

I’ve never read this book but I do love the way it is used Evil Dead II. I hope that doesn’t color your impression of me as a reader…

I have no idea what Evil Dead II is, but I think we’re all entitled to our own opinions. 🙂

I have read the book, but don’t expect too much warfare as the relationship between Hemingway and his pregnant girlfriend is the story with the war in the Italian Alps the backfrop, rather as the Titanic is the backdrop to Rose and Jack in the movie ‘Titanic’. On the must read of any fifty novels set in or around the First World War.

Oh, well I haven’t got that far in the book yet…
