[I’m unplugged and home from work today and tomorrow for a little mental health vacation, but I’ve pre-scheduled some posts. Today, I’m reposting my Veteran’s Day tribute to my father from last year, with a tweak here or there.]
On Dec. 14, my father will have been dead for 11 years. It doesn’t hurt any less than it did 11 years ago, and tears are in my eyes as I type this post. Although my father is no longer with us, I want to thank him today, on Veteran’s Day. He was an MP in the Air Force in Vietnam, and he was proud to have served his country. I hope you will take a minute to read the essay I wrote about him in 2008, “Memories From the Daughter of a Vietnam Veteran,” which Mrs. Lieutenant author Phyllis Zimbler Miller posted on her blog. And I hope you will take a minute to remember the sacrifices of the men and women who fought and died for our country over the years and to thank those who continue to serve our country. I only wish I had been old enough and wise enough when my father was still alive to tell him how proud I am of him.

Anna, your father’s a great man and this is a lovely tribute to him.
I personally know of a few veterans who are alive but injured while serving and these men and women are wonderful people. God bless all of them.

Veterans seems to be in the lives of many more these days as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq continue. When will humanity ever learn to live in peace.

Thanks! I tell her about him all the time, so she knows he loved her from the moment I told him I was pregnant, even though he never got the chance to see her.
