I know I’m late with this one, but this has been a hectic week and yesterday slipped away before I had another chance to blog. Anyway, yesterday’s Book Blogger Appreciation Week discussion topic focused on the influence of book bloggers on our reading
During the three years since I started this blog, I’ve read many books because they’ve been praised by my blog buddies — books I probably wouldn’t have taken the time to read otherwise. Several titles stand out as I glance at my list of books I’ve read so far this year:
My Enemy’s Cradle by Sara Young, which I picked up after reading participant reviews for the WWII Reading Challenge at War Through the Generations.
Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott, which was suggested by Heather in response to my question about the most “messed up” book people have read.
The Year of Goodbyes by Debbie Levy, which I made a point to obtain at BEA this year due to Becky’s favorable review.
And of course, I’m always getting recommendations from Serena. Since we share an office, our lunchtime discussions generally focus on books! Just this year she convinced me to read The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett, The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson, and Watermark by Vanitha Sankaran (which she literally pushed into my hands and said, “Stop what you’re doing and read this NOW!”).
I want to thank all my blog buddies for all their recommendations. I’m always appreciative of the e-mails saying, “I think you’d enjoy this,” and for remembering me and my reading tastes in your reading travels. I have a handwritten list where I jot down titles as I’m reading blogs, and there are so many I hope to get to in the coming year(s).
Have you read any books in recent months that you think are must-reads? Feel free to make recommendations in the comments. I love having a “to-read-someday” list with more titles than I could every possibly read…it’s all about having options. 😉

I have heard about all these and read none! Gotta remedy that!

I am amazed at how my reading tastes have changed since I have started blogging. This year, I got WAY outside my comfort zone with graphic novels thanks to several bloggers. I can’t get enough of them now!

I still haven’t tried a graphic novel, though my daughter is bugging me to read Bone. Maus looks good, too.
I’ve been taken out of my comfort zone to read urban fantasy and science fiction, and while not all of these experiences have been great, I’m glad I gave them a try.

I’m so glad you read the books I recommended. They are some of my favorites. I have to say that adoration of jenna fox got me interested in more YA, and I loved the uncommon reader…and well you know that Watermark blew me away! I couldn’t get you to read it fast enough!

I know. When I meant that you literally told me to stop everything, I wasn’t kidding. 😉

The Gendarme is still haunting me! I was just talking to a friend whose Armenian grandmother was on one of the marchs. Their group was attacked by rebel Turks and she was beaten and raped with a resulting pregnancy who’s my friend’s great uncle. The stories he heard when he was young are filled with like tales. Anna, if you haven’t read this book, I think you would like it as much as I did.

Well, you’ve sold me on that one! Thanks for the recommendation!

I found there was no way I could narrow it down to just books for this topic!

It was pretty hard for me, especially since a lot of the books I read this year have been around the blogs a lot.

I just like to follow the blogs/see what is happening around/and then go and pick up totally different books (all good by the way) which are available!!!

That’s not a bad strategy. And it works for me because I like to read about the different books you find. 😉

I just checked out The Adoration of Jenna Fox. I expect I’ll really like it, given that I have read such great reviews for it.

It totally blew me away, though I did want a bit more from it. But that’s because I’d enjoyed it so much. I’m looking forward to your thoughts!
