Review Policy

**Please note that I am accepting very few review requests right now.  Those that I do accept generally are WWII/Holocaust books or Jane Austen variations.  At this time, I am pulling back on review books as I work my way through a backlog.**

I am open to receiving books from publishers, publicists, and authors for review consideration.  Here are some things you need to know about me, my reviews, and the types of books I am willing to accept for review.

*I have a full-time job and a family, and nearly all of my reading is done on the train to and from work.  I have other interests to which I devote my time and am currently writing a novel.  I don’t get paid to review books; this is something I do in my free time.  I also have a pretty large stack of review books on my shelf, which I’m working my way through.  This means that I’m very picky about which books I accept and that it could take several months for me to post a review.  If you’re looking for a review on a particular date, just let me know, and I’ll see if it can fit it in my schedule.

*Before you send me a review request, please take some time to peruse my site to get a feel for the kinds of books I read and enjoy.  This saves your time and mine.  I have compiled all of my book reviews in alphabetical order by title and by genre.

*If I read it, it will be reviewed, whether it’s a review copy, borrowed from the library or a friend, or purchased with my hard-earned cash.  I write honest, fair reviews, and if I don’t like a book, I will say so (in a professional way, of course!).  I generally indicate what worked and didn’t work for me, and if I didn’t finish it, why.  If I’m not enjoying a book after 20 to 50 pages, I typically will not finish it, but I will still post my thoughts.

*Genres I will review: literary fiction, historical fiction, and certain non-fiction.  Topics of interest include World War II and the Holocaust, particularly war stories that focus more on experience and less on military strategy.  I also love Jane Austen and enjoy reading sequels, spin-offs, modern-day retellings, and re-imagined versions of her novels.

*Genres I won’t review: business, self-help, fitness, medical, westerns, and romance (think Harlequin-type).

*I generally do not read self-published books, but I will consider them if they are about World War II or are Austen-inspired.

*From time to time, I review books with my 11-year-old daughter (a.k.a. The Girl), and I’m also willing to consider books that she can review on her own.  She likes scary, action-packed adventures and also is interested in historical fiction and books about animals and science.

*I am willing to host giveaways, and if I enjoy a book, I’m happy to interview the author or feature a guest post written by him or her.

*I try to post my reviews on Goodreads and LibraryThing, and any war-related books that coincide with the War Through the Generations reading challenges will be linked there as well.

*Please note:  At this time, I do not own an e-reader, so I do not review e-books.
