I bet a lot of you are like me when it comes to packing for vacation: you pull the books out first and worry about clothes and everything else later. We’re off on our annual camping trip, and I’ve had a pile of books set aside for over a month now. They’ve been taunting me, knowing how much I’ve been looking forward to reading them. I have 6 days of rest and relaxation ahead of me, and I hope to make a pretty good dent in this pile. I always go overboard when packing my books, but I like to have choices.
What’s in my tote bag you ask??
The one I’m digging into the minute the car hits the road: Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
Flight From Berlin by David John, another WWII book that doesn’t seem too heavy
Open House, Thinking of You, and Perfect Timing, because you can never go wrong with Jill Mansell
When She Woke by Hillary Jordan, our August book club pick
Pride and Pyramids by Amanda Grange and Jacqueline Webb, Becoming Elizabeth Darcy by Mary Lydon Simonsen, Mr. Darcy’s Letter by Abigail Reynolds, and Darcy on the Hudson by Mary Lydon Simonsen, because you can’t leave Mr. Darcy at home.
I’ll be lucky to finish just one book, but I’m really optimistic this time. The Girl is bringing her best friend along for the week, so I figure they can entertain each other while I read in the screen house or on the beach. And I even packed an assortment of book lights so I can read by the campfire. 🙂
Of course, this means I won’t be reading blogs next week, but I have a couple of recuperation days set aside before I have to go back to work, and I’ll catch up with you all then. I have some posts prescheduled, but because I’m just finishing up a very stressful week at work and had very little time or energy to read, you’ll see a lot of The Girl in the coming days.
See you soon, my friends!

Anna, I always have a difficult time deciding which books to bring on a trip, or if I should bring more than one. Truthfully, usually the only time I get a chance to read a book during a trip is on a train or a plane. I hope you will fare better in this regard. Enjoy your trip and blogging break! 🙂

Oh yeah, it is all about the books! I think we all like to overpack just so we have choices AND to be optimistic! Ha ha. I am only bringing Wendy Wax’s Ocean Beach and Insurgent in print, but oh boy do I have my Kindle stuffed full. Code Name Verity is one of them.

That’s exactly the way I pack. I can go away for a weekend and take 5 books and forget an essential. Don’t worry about your Reader when you get back – just mark all as read. Have a great trip!!

Great selection of books! I’m like you in that I start setting books aside for vacation at least a month ahead…clothes and sundries get packed the night before leaving usually!
Be careful when you read Before She Woke…it might be too scary while camping?! I haven’t read it yet so I don’t know just thinking about the reviews I’ve read!
Have a wonderful time. I hope you get lots of rest and relaxation!

Hope you enjoy your vacation and get lots of reading done! That selection looks like exactly what I would expect to see for you – some Jill Mansell, a WWII book and some Jane Austen-inspired reading!

I love the little light you packed so you can read by the campfire!! I always go overboard with the books I pack too and end up barely getting one read because we’re too busy playing outside!! Have a great time and relax!

I’m the same, I pick my books first and then I figure out how many clothes I can still bring with the space left. I’m a moody reader so I need to have choices, you know?
Well, it seems like you have a great selection for your holiday. I heard almost only great things on Code Name Verity and When She Woke sounds intriguing. Have a great time! 🙂
