Welcome to Mailbox Monday, the weekly meme created by Marcia from A girl and her books (formerly The Printed Page) where book lovers share the titles they received for review, purchased, or otherwise obtained over the past week. Mailbox Monday currently is on tour, and this month, it is being hosted by Metroreader. **I am so excited that I will be the Mailbox Monday host for March!!**
Here’s what I received:
The Music in Her Mind by Robert Gilkes, from BookedPR for review (Amazon)
In June 1945, Colonel Alexander Litchfield is an exhausted war-torn officer, tormented by nightmares of the inhuman acts he has committed. In the last days of the war he takes the surrender of a vast army of Cossacks escaping from the Russians. Among them is Larisa Korsakova, a concert cellist with whom he had an idyllic love affair in Paris before the war. High in the Alpine forest above the POW camp they escape from the horrors they have endured into their irresistible passionate desire for each other until Lara is handed over to the Soviets. (publisher’s summary)
Chasing Mona Lisa by Tricia Goyer and Mike Yorkey, which I downloaded onto my husband’s e-reader because it was free on President’s Day (Amazon/IndieBound)
It is August 1944 and Paris is on the cusp of liberation. As the soldiers of the Third Reich flee the Allied advance, they ravage the country, stealing countless pieces of art. Reichsmarschall Hermann Goring will stop at nothing to claim the most valuable one of all, the Mona Lisa, as a post-war bargaining chip to get him to South America. Can Swiss OSS agents Gabi Mueller and Eric Hofstadler rescue DaVinci’s masterpiece before it falls into German hands?
With nonstop action, Chasing Mona Lisa is sure to get readers’ adrenaline pumping as they join the chase to save the most famous painting in the world. From war-ravaged Paris to a posh country chateau, the race is on–and the runners are playing for keeps. (publisher’s summary)
Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne From Normandy to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest by Stephen E. Ambrose, which I purchased because I absolutely loved the miniseries (which Jerry bought me for Christmas) and had to read the book (Amazon/Indiebound)
As good a rifle company as any in the world, Easy Company, 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army, kept getting the tough assignments — responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest at Berchtesgaden. In Band of Brothers, Ambrose tells of the men in this brave unit who fought, went hungry, froze, and died, a company that took 150 percent casualties and considered the Purple Heart a badge of office. Drawing on hours of interviews with survivors as well as the soldiers’ journals and letters, Stephen Ambrose recounts the stories, often in the men’s own words, of these American heroes. (publisher’s summary)
All Roads Lead to Austen by Amy Elizabeth Smith, from Sourcebooks for review (Amazon/IndieBound)
Is the Magic of Jane a Movable Feast? Jane Austen thrives in the 21st century, living on in book clubs, in conversations, in quiet reads with a cup of coffee. She is unchanged by time.
But is she unchanged by place? Does Austen still work magic in new time zones, new countries, new languages? Amy Elizabeth Smith wanted to find out.
With a suitcase full of Austen novels en español, Smith set off on a yearlong Latin American road trip with Jane. In six unique, unforgettable countries, she gathered book-loving new friends — taxi drivers and teachers, poets and politicians — to read Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and Pride and Prejudice.
On the road, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times (no, wait, that’s Dickens…). Whether sharing rooster beer with Guatemalans, joining the crowd at a Mexican boxing match, feeding a horde of tame iguanas with Ecuadorean children, or wrangling with argumentative booksellers in Argentina, Smith came to learn what Austen knew all along: we’re not always speaking the same language, even when we’re speaking the same language.
But with true Austen instinct, she could recognize when, unexpectedly, she’d found her own Señor Darcy. All Roads Lead to Austen celebrates the wisdom (and pleasure!) of letting go and becoming a student again, no matter what our age. (publisher’s summary)

Oooh. The Music in Her Mind looks wonderful!
I couldn’t resist that one!
I especially like the sound of the first (2) Anna. Hope you enjoy these, and I look forward to having you as our March host.
Thanks, Diane!
The Music in her Mind sounds intriguing.
I agree!
Looks like we have a couple books in common. Happy reading.
We do have similar reading tastes, so I’m not surprised.
Carl and Vance love the Band of Brothers mini-series too. I’ll be watching to see what you think of the book.
I couldn’t resist, and I’ve already started it!!
I love the sound of Music in her Mind…and Chasing Mona Lisa. Enjoy!
Here’s MY MONDAY MEMES POST
Thanks, Laurel!
Great cover on The Music in her Mind – the book sounds intense.
I love the cover, too!
These are all new to me. I hope you enjoy them all.
Thanks, Mrs. Q!
Wonderful Mailbox! Enjoy your new books!
Here is my post!
Thanks, Gautami!
I think The Swiss Courier by Tricia Goyer is the prequel to Chasing Mona Lisa. That was a freebie too at B&N. If it is not still free and is lendable, let me know if you want it. I’d be happy to lend it to you. Have a wonderful week and happy reading!
Yes, that’s the first book. I’ve heard Chasing Mona Lisa is a standalone book, though.
I guess I should have checked first before I offered to lend The Swiss Courier to you. I just went to B&N and it is $5.99 now and not lendable. Sorry I was so hasty.
No worries! I was planning to get the Swiss Courier from the library and then take advantage of the free Chasing Mona Lisa to see how I like reading an e-book. I appreciate you checking on it though.
I’m excited you’re the host in March! Yay Anna!
All Roads Lead to Austen sounds really interesting and then I read the author’s name and, well, I think it’s a sign I should read this book since my middle name is Elizabeth so I, too, am Amy Elizabeth! It’s a great name! LOL
The first two books, The Music in her Mind and Chasing Mona Lisa, sound captivating. I’m already looking forward to your thoughts.
Happy Reading, Anna, Enjoy!
In that case, you really should read the book!
I’ve been hearing about Chasing Mona Lisa and think I’d like to read this one.
It does sound like a fascinating story.
The cover of that first book is so provocative! I hadn’t realized that Band of Brothers was a book – I might have to track that one down.
I knew the series was based on a book, but I’m glad I watched it first.
lots of good reading ahead, enjoy!

Thanks, Mary Ann!
Reading Band of Brothers has always been on my to-do list, but I still haven’t got around to getting a copy. I really enjoyed the mini-series and also picked up a copy of The Pacific a little over a year ago. They are both very well done!
I’ll have to get my hands on The Pacific next.
These all look great Anna. I just finished watching The Band of Brothers with my daughter in January. That was just an awesome series. Next up is The Pacific I guess!
Band of Brothers was so well done. I want to see The Pacific, but I don’t know how it can top BoB.
Anna, I also loved the Band of Brothers mini series and would (also) like to read the book! Chasing Mona Lisa I’ve come across recently on blogs, and I can’t believe you’ve found yet another Austen-inspired book! May you enjoy all of your new bounty!
This certainly is something different in the Austen-inspired genre!
I liked Band of Brothers but the others are new to me. Enjoy your new books!
So glad you liked it. I started right away and am loving it.
Oh, The Music in her Mind sounds fabulous!
Doesn’t it?!?
Enjoy your new books :=)
Thank you!
That last book looks like so much fun!
I hope it’s as fun as it sounds!
I have Chasing Mona Lisa on my bookshelf which I can’t wait to read.
I will keep an eye out for your thoughts!
I have never heard of All Roads Lead to Austen. It sounds good!
I can’t wait to get to that one!
I’m waiting for the ebook of All Roads, sounds wonderful and I’ve picked up a few free Kindle books by Goyer and they sounded wonderful! I look forward to your thoughts on this author!
Enjoy your week!
I can’t wait to see what you think of the Austen books. I haven’t read Goyer yet but I’ve heard good things about her books.
The Music in her Mind sounds really good. I hope you enjoy all of your books!
Thanks, Teddy!
The cover for The Music In Her Mind is amazing!!! Really grabbed my attention.
I accepted a copy based on the summary, and when I opened the envelope, I was blown away by the cover!
Enjoy your books. I love the cover of the first and Chasing Mona Lisa sounds like one I should pick up.
It seems like everyone loves that cover! Chasing Mona Lisa sounds really good and I can’t wait to have time to read it.
