Welcome to Mailbox Monday, the weekly meme created by Marcia from A girl and her books (formerly The Printed Page) where book lovers share the titles they received for review, purchased, or otherwise obtained over the past week. Mailbox Monday currently is on tour, and this month’s host is Savvy Verse & Wit.
Here’s what I received:
Persuade Me by Juliet Archer (Amazon), from the author for review on AustenBlog
**This is where I get to tell you some exciting news! I am now a reviewer for AustenBlog! I’ll let you know when my Austenesque reviews appear on the site, and I hope you’ll check them out!**
When it comes to love, Anna Elliot is stuck in the past. No one can compare to Rick Wentworth, the man she gave up ten years ago at the insistence of her disapproving family. What if she’s missed her only chance for real happiness?
Since Anna broke his heart, Rick has moved on — or so he thinks. Out in Australia, he’s worked hard to build a successful career — and a solid wall around his feelings.
The words ‘forgive and forget’ aren’t in Rick’s vocabulary. The word ‘regret’ is definitely in Anna’s. So, when they meet again on his book tour of England, it’s an opportunity for closure.
But memories intrude — the pure sensuality of what they once shared, the pain of parting… And she has to deal with another man from her past, while his celebrity status makes him the focus of unwanted attention.
With Anna’s image-obsessed family still ready to interfere and Rick poised to return to Australia, can she persuade him to risk his heart again? (publisher’s summary)
Jane Austen Made Me Do It: Original Stories Inspired by Literature’s Most Astute Observer of the Human Heart edited by Laurel Ann Nattress (IndieBound/Amazon), from Laurel Ann Nattress and Ballantine Books/Random House for review
“My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”
If you just heaved a contented sigh at Mr. Darcy’s heartfelt words, then you, dear reader, are in good company. Here is a delightful collection of never-before-published stories inspired by Jane Austen — her novels, her life, her wit, her world.
In Lauren Willig’s “A Night at Northanger,” a young woman who doesn’t believe in ghosts meets a familiar specter at the infamous abbey; Jane Odiwe’s “Waiting” captures the exquisite uncertainty of Persuasion‘s Wentworth and Anne as they await her family’s approval of their betrothal; Adriana Trigiani’s “Love and Best Wishes, Aunt Jane” imagines a modern-day Austen giving her niece advice upon her engagement; Laurie Viera Rigler’s “Intolerable Stupidity” finds Mr. Darcy bringing charges against all the writers of Pride and Prejudice sequels and spin-offs; in Janet Mullany’s “Jane Austen, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!” a teacher at an all-girls school invokes the Beatles to help her students understand Sense and Sensibility; and in Jo Beverley’s “Jane Austen and the Mistletoe Kiss,” a widow doesn’t believe she’ll have a second chance at love . . . until a Miss Austen suggests otherwise.
Regency or contemporary, romantic or fantastical, each of these marvelous stories reaffirms the incomparable influence of one of history’s most cherished authors. (publisher’s summary)

Enjoy your new books. I’m not a big Austen fan, and usually try to stay away from anything Austen. I’ll be looking out for your reviews though.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
We have one book in common, but I want to know what you think of Persuade Me!
I can’t wait to read it. You know how much I love Persuasion, and I’ve yet to read a modern-day retelling.
For all things Austen visit Anna of Diary of an Eccentric.
Thanks!
I read Jane Austen Made Me Do It a few weeks ago and I loved it! Hope you enjoy it too.
I’m so glad to hear it! With all those awesome Austenesque authors included, I’m sure I will enjoy it.
Both of these are new to me Anna – hope you enjoy them a lot.

Congartualtions on your new blogging position! I look forward to reading your posts on Austenblog!
“Persuade Me” sounds like a great story and a good start to reviewing for Austenblog.
I think the title “Jane Austen made me do it” is great! I’m sure there are some great stories in this book.
Enjoy them both!
Thanks, Amy! I’m very excited about it!
I’m especially curious about Frank Delaney’s story in Jane Austen Made Me Do It, which is co-written with his wife. I loved Venetia Kelly’s Traveling Show and The Matchmaker of Kenmare, so I’m very intrigued by his being involved in an Austenesque story.
Congratulations on your new position! That is exciting news!
Thanks, Beth! I’m so excited!
Those look perfect books for you!
I must agree!
I bet you’ll enjoy them both.
I certainly hope so!
I never want to read the Jane Austen spinoffs but this one is really calling my name! Plus they are true stories so it isn’t REALLY a spin-off, right?
I’m not sure if they are true stories. They sound like some are actually retellings or continuations, but others feature original characters. I guess I’ll find out soon enough!
I hope you enjoy! your reads.

Persuade Me sounds so interesting! It sounds a little like Persuasion by Jane Austen. Its book cover is also lovely.
It’s a modern-day retelling of Persuasion, which is my all-time favorite book.
Oh, congrats on your new position!
Thank you!!
Congrats on becoming a reviewer for AustenBlog. I know how much you like your Austen novels. Persuade Me sounds like one I would like. Happy Reading!
Thanks! You know me well!
Great mailbox, these both sound good. And congrats on getting onto AustenBlog, very cool
Happy reading and reviewing!
Thanks, Naida!
Love that Austen inspired book! Hadn’t heard of it before–definitely intrigued. I have added nothing to my books in a couple of weeks. Strangely, it doesn’t seem like my piles of books are getting any lower!
I have been receiving less and less in recent months, yet library sales continue to push my TBR pile skyward.
I have JANE AUSTEN MADE ME DO IT, too! Although I’m nowhere near a Janeite in my (lack of) knowledge of all things Austen, I know I’ll enjoy the anthology and connect with what so many of my favorite writers have to say about her work.
I can’t wait to see what you think of it!
Congrats on your new reviewing position! I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for visiting my mailbox post!
