Welcome to Mailbox Monday, the weekly meme created by Marcia from A girl and her books (formerly The Printed Page) where book lovers share the titles they received for review, purchased, or otherwise obtained over the past week. Mailbox Monday currently is on tour, and this month’s host is Passages to the Past.
Here’s what I added to my shelves:
The Katyn Order by Douglas W. Jacobson, from McBooks Press for an upcoming blog tour (IndieBound, Amazon)
I really enjoyed Jacobson’s debut novel, Night of Flames, so I can’t wait to read this one!
The German War Machine is in retreat as the Russians advance. In Warsaw, Resistance fighters rise up against their Nazi occupiers, but the Germans retaliate, ruthlessly leveling the city. American Adam Nowak has been dropped into Poland by British intelligence as an assassin. During the Warsaw Rising he meets Natalia, a covert operative who has lost everything — just as he has. Amid the Allied power struggle left by Germany’s defeat, Adam and Natalia join in a desperate hunt for the 1940 Soviet order authorizing the murders of 20,000 Polish Army officers and civilians. If they can find the Katyn Order before the Russians do, they may change the fate of Poland. (publisher’s summary)

I am not familar with this author, but the synopsis looks excellent!
Night of Flames made my “best of” list for the World War II challenge back in 2009. I hope you give his work a try.
Story sounds very good. Await your review.
Look for it in late May.
I’ll have to borrow this one from you!
Of course!
This does sound like a good story…hope you enjoy it.
Here’s MY MONDAY MEMES POST
Thanks, Laurel!
I like the sound of this book. WWII stories always appeal to me. Thanks for sharing!!
I must admit I’m obsessed with tales of WWII.
Sounds good, this is a new title to me.
I hope you give this author a try at some point!
Happy reading to you
Thanks!
That looks like the perfect book for you.
I think so, too!
Also a new to me author but your endorsement has him added to my TBR now — can’t wait to see your review of this one!
I can’t wait to read it. He writes stories about the resistance, which always interest me.
You should rent the movie Katyn before you read this, if you haven’t already. Great movie that would give a perspective of the history of what happened.
Sounds like a good idea. At the very least, I’ll research the history of it.
A new one to me – I’ll watch for your review. Have a good week!
Thanks, Mary!
I’m looking forward to your review of this book, Anna! I’ve been seeing lots about it
Thanks for sharing!
Molly
I actually haven’t seen it anywhere, so I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for other reviews.
This is new author for me but the book sounds really interesting. I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks, me, too — especially since my expectations are so high!
That cover looks really compelling!
I love it, too!
This author sounds terrific, Anna. I hope you enjoy this book as much as the first one.
I’m pretty confident I will, since I like Jacobson’s writing style.
I’m on a tour for that one too in June but I haven’t received the book yet. Like you, I loved his other book, Night of Flames. Enjoy! Have a great week and happy reading. My MM is here
So glad to hear you’re on the tour, too. I’m looking forward to your review!
Sounds like another great read is in store for you!
I sure hope so!
I have not heard of this book before but it does sound very good. Enjoy!
Thanks, Beth!
A lot of war novels lately. This sounds interesting. the usual competition between the US and Russia.
I have no idea how I can stomach so many war novels. There’s just something so exciting about them, and I learn so much.
I’m not sure that it’s a book I’d read, but I do love the cover.
The cover is intriguing, I must agree!
Probably not one I would pick up– I watch these sorts of movies though. Enjoy your new book!
